Millennium Tower

The Millennium Tower is a tall skyscraper in Vienna, Austria. It stands 202 metres high with fifty floors and is the second tallest building in the country. The tower was completed in 1999 for the new millennium and sits in the Brigittenau district beside the Danube Canal. Two glazed cylinders form its shape, held by a steel structure designed by architects Gustav Peichl, Boris Podrecca and Rudolf Weber. The building mixes offices, homes, shops, restaurants and a cinema in one complex called Millennium City. The tower houses around 136 companies, including major international firms such as Xerox, which manages Eastern European operations from here. Other tenants include Cirquent, Trivadis, CSC, Carlson Wagonlit, Inode, Agip and Cisco. A shopping centre and the largest cinema complex in Austria sit at its base, with residential buildings nearby. The whole site was built quickly, averaging two and a half floors added each week during construction. Inside, visitors find wide office floors and public areas in the shopping centre. The cinema complex draws crowds, while restaurants and shops line the lower levels. The tower’s glazed cylinders give views across the city and along the canal. The surrounding Millennium City adds green spaces and modern buildings to the district.
