Rostocker Eck
The Rostocker Eck is a mountain standing at 2,749 metres in the Venediger Group of the Hohe Tauern range in East Tyrol. Its summit forms part of the long eastern ridge of the Northern Malhamspitze, and it serves as the summit block for the Essener-Rostocker Hut. The mountain’s name links the city of Rostock with the Alpine club hut that overlooks the route.
Climbers reach the top from the Essener-Rostocker Hut, situated in the Maurertal valley below. The Carl-Brenner path leads up to the ridge, allowing a full north-to-south traverse of the summit or the reverse direction. The route is graded UIAA II, offering a straightforward scramble for those comfortable on exposed ground.
On the summit visitors find a small cross and a metal summit register set into the rock. The view stretches across the Venediger peaks and down into the Maurertal valley. The ridge itself is broad and rounded, with enough space for several people to stand together. The hut below provides food and shelter after the climb.
