The Garding transmitter stands on flat North Frisian marshland near the town of Garding in Kreis Nordfriesland. A 114-metre guyed steel lattice mast carries the antennas that send FM radio and television signals across western Schleswig-Holstein. The site began in 1959 as a 92-metre directional radio mast for the federal post office. In 1962 engineers added a new television antenna, lifting the mast to 105 metres and launching Channel 31 with 500 kW of effective radiated power.

The mast’s height grew again in 1989 when private channels RTLplus and Sat.1 began broadcasting from Garding on Channels 25 and 58. By the time analogue television ended in 2006 the mast had become a landmark for viewers from Niebüll to the Kiel Canal. Digital radio in DAB+ format was added in 2023, using vertical polarisation and single-frequency operation with other regional transmitters.

Visitors see a tall steel framework rising above the flat horizon, its red-and-white painted sections visible for many kilometres. The surrounding farmland offers wide views north to the Wadden Sea and south to the geest ridges. There is no public access inside the fenced compound, but the exterior of the mast and the open landscape make it a quiet spot for a short stop while touring Eiderstedt.
