Kapelle hl. Margareta, Pians

The Chapel of St Margaret stands on rising ground east of Pians in the Tyrol. Built around 1500, it is a small Gothic structure with a wooden bell turret and shingle roof. The choir is polygonal, its corners marked by triangular pilasters topped with tiny pyramid roofs. The interior is vaulted in two bays, the ribs springing from plain corbels with round keystones. Gothic murals uncovered in 1911 show Christ in a mandorla, the four Fathers of the Church and the Evangelists in the choir, while the chancel arch bears a scene of Christ and Satan as gardeners. The altar, donated in 1648 by Michael Lechleitner, carries a 17th-century image of the Virgin and Child. Visitors find Stations of the Cross dated 1736 and 1737 by Johann Paul Scheiber, brass crosses set into the floor marked 1769 and 1773, and two early bells cast by Alexander Löffler in 1539 and Hans Christof Löffler in 1562. The west door has a hollow-chamfered pointed arch, the north door a shouldered arch, and above it a fresco of the Virgin of Mercy with St Margaret and St Catherine from the mid-18th century.
