Pfarrkirche hl. Georg, Kraubath an der Mur

The Catholic parish church of St George stands in Kraubath an der Mur, a market town in the Leoben district of Styria. The church belongs to the Admont Abbey and forms part of the Leoben deanery in the Graz-Seckau diocese. Both the church and the surrounding cemetery wall are listed as historic monuments. The building first appears in records in 1195 and became a parish in 1524. A major remodelling took place in 1784, followed by internal restoration in 1955 and external work in 1971. The west end carries a small bell tower topped with a bulbous dome. Inside, a flat ceiling with plaster panels spans the nave, which leads to a slightly narrower choir ending in three sides. The stained-glass windows date from 1922 and were made by the Tiroler Glasmalerei und Mosaik Anstalt. The high altar combines baroque and neo-baroque fragments and features a figure of St George carved by E. Huber in 1956. Flanking statues of Gregor and Bonifaz date from the late 17th century, while angels belong to the 18th. Several baroque statues of St Joseph and St John of Nepomuk come from the workshop of Balthasar Prandstätter in the early 1700s. A seated Madonna and Child with two angels is attributed to the circle of Josef Stammel around the mid-18th century. An iron communion rail was added in the mid-19th century, and the organ case dates from 1864 with its 1984 interior by Orgelbau Kögler.
