Burgstall Hechenberg
The Burgstall Hechenberg stands on a spur above Dietramszell-Hechenberg in the Bavarian countryside. A ruined spur castle was built here in the 11th century by the Lords of Hechenberg. Later, from 1487 to 1559, the Dominicans of Augsburg owned the site.
Nothing of the old walls remains today, yet the place is still marked by a small chapel built over the foundations. A second earthwork castle, a motte, lies 200 m to the east, adding to the historic feel of the area.
Visitors find a quiet hilltop with the chapel at its centre. The church of St Valentin stands nearby, and the two sites together give a sense of medieval life in the region. The surrounding countryside offers gentle walks and wide views across the valley.
