Glyder Fach

Glyder Fach is a mountain in Snowdonia, north-west Wales. It is the second highest of the Glyderau range and the sixth highest in Wales. The mountain stands near the village of Capel Curig and is surrounded by dramatic landscapes. Routes to the summit come from Tryfan and Bristly Ridge to the north, from Glyder Fawr via Pen-y-Pass to the south, and along the Glyder ridge to the east. Climbers often visit the mountain for its challenging paths. The name Glyder Fach comes from the Welsh word ‘gludair’, meaning a heap of stones. Near the summit is Y Gwyliwr, a large rock that looks precariously balanced from certain angles. This feature is known as The Cantilever and is a popular spot for photographs. Another notable feature is Castell y Gwynt, a jagged rocky outcrop west of the summit. Both the Cantilever and Castell y Gwynt appeared in the 1981 film Dragonslayer. The mountain offers striking views across Snowdonia. The rocky ridges and spiky outcrops create a rugged landscape. The area is also linked to local culture, mentioned in the Half Man Half Biscuit song ‘Evening Of Swing (Has Been Cancelled)’. Walkers and climbers find the terrain varied, with both steep climbs and gentler slopes. The mountain’s dramatic features make it a memorable destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
