Fleiding

Fleiding is a mountain in the Kitzbühel district of Tyrol, Austria. It stands 1 732 metres above sea level in the central Alps. The land falls away steeply to the south and rolls in gentle hills toward the north. Wörgl, the nearest town, lies seventeen kilometres to the northwest. The slopes are covered with mixed forest that stretches across the surrounding valleys. The mountain is recognised for its clear views over the Inn valley and the Wilder Kaiser range. Its modest height keeps the summit within reach of walkers of average fitness. The area is lightly settled, with fifty-two people living in each square kilometre of the wider district. The forests provide shelter for red deer and capercaillie. Visitors follow well-marked paths that climb through beech and spruce woods. At the top a small cross marks the highest point, where the panorama includes the Hohe Tauern in the distance. In winter the lower slopes become part of a cross-country ski network. The quiet trails offer a chance to hear woodpeckers and the occasional chamois on the rocks above.
