Carnedd gron Rhos-Gwawr

A round cairn from the late Stone Age and early Bronze Age stands on a gentle slope above the Rhondda valley in De Aberaman, Rhondda Cynon Taf. Its stone heap marks a spot used long ago for religious ceremonies tied to burial rites. Cadw recognises the site as a scheduled ancient monument under the code GM404. The builders who raised this cairn also created chamber tombs, burial mounds, stone circles, hill forts, Irish huts and standing stones across the landscape. Their work shows how widely these practices spread in prehistoric Wales. The round cairn itself is a simple but enduring example of their craft. Visitors reach the cairn by following a quiet footpath that climbs from the valley floor. The view opens over rolling hills and the winding river below. A low stone ring once surrounded the mound, though much of it has been worn away by time. The site sits alone, undisturbed except by the wind and occasional walkers.
