Schloss Loibersdorf

Schloss Loibersdorf stands in the village of Sankt Leonhard, part of Babensham in the Rosenheim district of Bavaria. It lies 120 metres north-east of the parish and pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard am Buchat. The present building is a simple square two-storey structure with a pyramid roof, protected as a monument. Beneath the grounds lie remains of earlier buildings from the early modern period. Both the house and the buried traces are officially recorded as cultural heritage. The site first appears in records in the 12th century as the home of a local noble, possibly a ministerial of Salzburg archbishopric. By 1606 it was described as a fine small castle belonging to the widow of Oswald Kreidhuber. Disputes over his estate reached the ducal council in Munich in 1613. From 1689 the canons of Au am Inn used it as a summer residence for their provost. A new building was erected in 1694, and full manorial rights were secured only at the end of the 18th century. Visitors today see a plain, symmetrical façade with evenly spaced windows under the low pyramid roof. Inside, the two floors contain modest rooms arranged around a central stairwell. The surrounding meadows and the nearby church tower form a quiet rural scene. The building’s unadorned lines reflect its long history of changing uses, from noble seat to summer retreat and finally to monastic property before secularisation.
