Widdehagen

The Widdehagen is a wooded mountain in the Upland, the north-eastern arm of the Rothaargebirge range. It stands near Schweinsbühl in Waldeck-Frankenberg, Hesse, about eight kilometres north-west of Korbach. The summit reaches roughly 635 metres above sea level, marked by a trig point on the western edge of the ridge. The mountain sits on the Diemel–Eder–Fulda–Weser watershed, sending streams north to the Weser and south to the Fulda. The Rhene rises on its south-west slope and flows into the Diemel, while the Rhena starts on the neighbouring Hohen Rade and travels south through the Neerdar and Wilde Aa before joining the Eder and the Fulda. The landscape falls away north into the Flechtdorfer Höckerflur and south into the Hohe Rade. Visitors reach the summit along forest tracks that cross the ridge. The view stretches over rolling hills and distant ridges of the Rothaargebirge. The area belongs to the Diemelsee Nature Park, where quiet paths lead through beech and spruce woods. On clear days the Brocken in the Harz can be seen to the north-east.
