Blassenstein

The Blassenstein is a mountain rising to 844 metres in the Türnitzer Alps of Lower Austria. It stands out sharply from the surrounding landscape thanks to its steep northern rock face. The summit can only be reached from the south and holds a Neolithic settlement site discovered in 1988. The mountain draws hikers along well-marked trails and can also be driven to by car. A road leads almost to the top, leaving the final 500 metres to be walked. A service track offers an easier route for those who prefer not to climb. The Urlingerwarte, an observation tower, was opened on 9 August 1903 and provides sweeping views across the Mostviertel region. Visitors reach the summit plateau where the Urlingerwarte stands. On clear days the outlook stretches as far as Linz, St Florian in Upper Austria and the Waldviertel. The Neolithic remains lie near the tower, while the steep northern cliffs frame distant views of the surrounding Alps.
