Marble Hill Park

Marble Hill Park is a 27-hectare green space in Twickenham, surrounded by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It centres on Marble Hill House, a Palladian villa built between 1724 and 1729 for Henrietta Howard, a favourite of George II. The park itself holds Grade II* status on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. Historic England studied its 18th-century garden layouts between 2015 and 2016. From 2004 to 2006 the park hosted open-air concerts by the Jazz Cafe. On 26 August 2006 Westlife played a show there during their Face to Face Tour. The house and grounds show how Henrietta Howard shaped a fashionable retreat on the Thames. The villa’s design reflects Palladian principles popular in early 18th-century England. The surrounding parkland still carries traces of the formal gardens laid out in that period. Research uncovered plans and planting records from the 1700s. The site therefore offers a clear view of how grand landscapes evolved alongside aristocratic life. Visitors walk through wide lawns and tree-lined avenues that once belonged to the villa. Remains of the 18th-century layout can be seen in the paths and water features. The Thames forms the southern edge, giving views across the river. The house itself stands at the heart of the park, its white façade contrasting with the green surroundings. The whole area feels calm and spacious, a quiet corner of London where history is still present.
