Ashton Gate Stadium

Ashton Gate is a multi-use stadium in the south-west of Bristol, just south of the River Avon. It stands on the site where Bedminster football club played before merging with Bristol South End in 1900. The ground has hosted rugby since the 1890s and became the permanent home of Bristol Rugby in 2014. Internationals have been played here, including England versus Wales in 1899 and a 2019 Rugby World Cup pool match. The stadium now seats 26,462 and is shared by Bristol City football and Bristol Bears rugby. The Lansdown Stand, opened in 2016, is the largest with 9,506 seats and a roof covered in solar panels. Opposite stands the Dolman Stand, rebuilt in 1970 and modernised in 2015, holding 6,675. The Atyeo Stand, smallest at 3,900 seats, contains the old dressing rooms and gymnasium. The South Stand, completed in 2015, has a singing section and wheelchair spaces. Visitors walk through the concourse linking the stands and see the pitch shifted five metres east to share use between football and rugby. The stadium’s redevelopment finished in 2016, replacing older terraces and stands with modern seating. Away fans are accommodated in the Atyeo Stand, while the Lansdown Stand houses the tunnel, benches and TV gantry.
