Christuskirche

The Christuskirche in Fehring is a modest Protestant church built in 1962. It stands in the small town of Fehring, in the rolling hills of the Steiermark region. The building follows a traditional design, with a simple rectangular shape and a pitched roof topped by a small ridge turret. Inside, the wooden ceiling beams are left exposed, framing a single large space. The church is worth visiting for its striking interior artwork. A fresco by Stefan Maitz, painted in 1963, dominates the altar wall. It shows an angel pointing to the empty tomb of Christ’s resurrection, accompanied by the words ‘I am the resurrection and the life’ from the Gospel of John. The work blends clear religious symbolism with the clean lines of modern church architecture. Visitors find a quiet, uncluttered sanctuary. The open timber roof gives the room a warm, sheltering feel. The single fresco draws the eye, while the plain white walls and simple furnishings keep the focus on the artwork. Outside, the church sits among low-rise buildings in a quiet part of town, its modest presence marking it as a place of worship rather than a grand landmark.
