Vorderer Bratschenkopf

The Vorderer Bratschenkopf is a 3,401-metre peak in the Glockner range of the Hohe Tauern National Park. It stands in the Fuscher and Kaprun ridges, on the border of Fusch an der Großglocknerstraße. The mountain has a short southern ridge and a long south-eastern ridge with two lower eastern summits. The first ascent was made in 1869 by Karl Hofmann, Johann Stüdl, Thomas Groder and Joseph Schnell. The normal route starts from the Bratschenkopfscharte, a col reached either from the Heinrich-Schwaiger-Haus via the Wielingerscharte or from the Schwarzenberghütte. From the col the climb follows the north-west ridge to the summit without difficulty. Glaciers lie on the north-east and south-west sides: the Teufelsmühlkees and the Bratschenkopfkees. To the east the Klockerin rises to 3,422 metres. The Ferleitental, a steep valley of the Fuscher Ache, lies below the eastern face.
