Burg Billingsbach

Burg Billingsbach stands on a hill above the village of Billingsbach at 445 metres. The remains lie on private land near Burgweg 4 in Blaufelden. A small stream of the same name runs below the site. The castle was probably built in the 12th century by local nobles who served the lords of Hohenlohe. The lords later moved to Burg Hertenstein, about 900 metres away. In 1409 the place was first called a Burgstall, meaning only ruins remained. Today a working farm covers most of the site, but a stone well and parts of a ditch can still be seen. Below ground, fragments of the old walls survive. Visitors can walk past the farm buildings and look for the shallow remains of the moat. The view across the valley shows why the spot was chosen. Nothing grand remains above ground, yet the traces tell of a once important tower.
