Dumbarton Football Stadium

The Rock, also known as The Rock sponsored by Marbill Coaches, is a football stadium in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire. It sits on part of the former Denny’s shipyard site and is the home ground of Dumbarton Football Club. The stadium has a single stand and open areas around the other three sides. It is a five to ten-minute walk from Dumbarton East railway station on the North Clyde Line. Dumbarton’s stadium is the fourth smallest in the Scottish Professional Football League. The ground is nicknamed The Rock by fans because of its proximity to Dumbarton Castle.
The stadium has hosted football matches since its opening in 2000, including games for the Scotland international team and Celtic’s UEFA Youth League fixtures. Broomhill, a Lowland Football League side, moved to The Rock in 2023 after their previous ground closed. Beyond football, the venue accommodates weddings, conferences, and parties. In 2026, an artificial pitch will be installed to allow the women’s team and youth sides to play there regularly. The stadium has changed names several times due to sponsorship deals, with the latest being The Rock sponsored by Marbill Coaches.
Visitors find a modest but functional stadium with one main stand and open terraces on the remaining sides. The surroundings include views of Dumbarton Castle, reinforcing the ground’s nickname. The stadium’s location near the railway station makes it easy to reach. Events beyond football, such as conferences and receptions, take place in the facilities. The planned artificial pitch will expand the venue’s use for training and matches. The Rock remains a simple, practical ground with a strong connection to the local community.
