Turbinenläuferdenkmal Halle
The Turbinenläuferdenkmal stands in Halle (Saale) on the site of the modern gas-fired heating plant Halle-Trotha. It marks the former brown-coal heating plant Rudolf Breitscheid and shows the rotor of a 12 MW extraction-condensing turbine. The turbine was built in 1969 by VEB Görlitzer Maschinenbau and ran until 1995. The rotor ran for 174 248 hours and produced about 1.7 million megawatt-hours of electricity. Its long service shows how the plant supplied the city for decades. The monument keeps the memory of the plant’s engineers and workers alive. Visitors find the rotor mounted on a concrete base beside the present heating plant. A small information board explains its history and technical data. The setting is industrial, with the hum of turbines still audible nearby. The monument stands where the old plant once stood, linking past and present.
