The Dionysiuskirche stands in the centre of Bad Vigaun, a village in the Salzach valley south of Salzburg. It is a late-Gothic hall church dedicated to Saint Dionysius of Paris and has been under Denkmalschutz since the 19th century. The first mention of the church dates from 790, though the present building was erected between 1488 and 1516.

The church’s exterior is built of rough conglomerate blocks left unpainted, giving it a rugged appearance. A tall west tower rises above the main roof, its three pointed openings and slender spire visible from the surrounding lanes. The south portal bears the date 1488 and a late-Gothic relief of the saint, while the north portal is now walled up. Inside, the nave is divided into three aisles by octagonal piers, and the tower hall is roofed with a star-shaped ribbed vault.

A high cemetery wall encloses the churchyard, adding to the quiet dignity of the site. A small round stair-tower on the north side leads to the gallery and roof space, and a vaulted mortuary chapel is tucked beneath a lean-to roof on the south wall. The interior walls show the same unplastered stonework, creating a calm, uncluttered atmosphere throughout the building.
