St Neots Museum sits in the Old Court building on New Street, a former police station and law court in the market town of St Neots. The town lies beside the River Great Ouse in Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire. The museum traces the town’s past from prehistoric times to the present day. Inside, visitors find the original 1907 cell block where prisoners once waited. The cell block now hosts ‘Jailbreak’, an Escape Room that opened in April 2018. It has run two successful seasons and is about to begin its third. The museum’s displays bring local history to life with objects and stories from the area. Artefacts show how St Neots changed from prehistoric settlements to a busy market town. The town’s market charter dates back to the 12th century. Visitors can see items linked to the River Great Ouse and its role in trade and transport. The exhibits also cover the town’s growth in the 19th and 20th centuries. A visit includes time in the cell block turned Escape Room, where teams solve puzzles to ‘break out’. The rest of the museum offers rooms full of photographs, tools, and everyday objects. Outside, the building stands close to the river and the town centre. The displays are arranged to show how St Neots developed over thousands of years.
