Hopperkopf
The Hopperkopf is a wooded mountain 832 metres high in the Rothaargebirge range. It stands on the border between the county of Waldeck-Frankenberg in Hesse and the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia. The summit lies about four kilometres south-south-west of Stryck, a village in the municipality of Willingen. The mountain marks the meeting point of three natural regions. To the north is the Upland and the Diemelsee nature park, to the south the Sauerland and the Rothaargebirge-Sauerland nature park. Several old boundary stones from 1769, 1825 and 1866 line the ridge that carries the state border. The Itter river rises on the north-west slope, while the small Schweimecke stream flows down the south-west flank. Paths follow the ridge across the summit, where trig points stand at 832 and 831 metres. The mountain also lies on two major watersheds. Water from the Itter drains north-east through the Diemel to the Weser, while streams on the southern side reach the Rhine by way of the Hillebach and Ruhr. The view from the top takes in the surrounding peaks of the Winterberger Hochland.
