Rabenturm

The Rabenturm stands in Beethovengasse 17 in Wiener Neustadt, a town in Lower Austria. It was once part of the city’s medieval defences, built as a defensive tower along the western wall. The tower and sections of the wall are protected as historic monuments. The tower is a three-storey structure made of rubble stone and brick, with rusticated corner stones. It sits between the site of the old Fischauer Gate and the southern corner tower, later expanded into the city’s casemates. The Burschenschaft Germania, a secondary-school fraternity, uses the tower as their meeting hall. Visitors find a solid stone tower rising above quiet streets near the town centre. The western city wall still runs beside it, with early-13th-century bifora windows set into the masonry. The tower’s simple, functional design shows how the town once defended itself.
