Westfalen-Therme

The Westfalen-Therme is a thermal bath in Bad Lippspringe, a town in eastern Westphalia. It opened in the mid-1980s and was designed by architect Heribert Stork. The complex belongs to the Stork business group and covers about 18,000 square metres. It blends indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, gardens and a spa area. Thermal water comes from the Martinusquelle, a source drilled in 1962. The water is 27.8 °C warm and flows at 2,000 litres per minute. The site offers a water and adventure world, a three-storey sauna paradise and a 600-square-metre salt spa. Inside the salt area there is a floating pool at 36 °C, a salt-stone sauna with brine mist and one of the few indoor graduation towers in North Rhine-Westphalia. Outside, four pools use the same thermal water at between 30 °C and 34 °C. A steam bath, rest room, sauna garden and sun terrace with heated outdoor pool look out over the Teutoburg Forest. Beyond the main building lies the Waldgarten, where two structures stand beside a large natural lake. The Saunahaus contains the 70 °C Waldsauna and the 90 °C Eventsauna, the latter being the largest sauna in the region at 100 square metres. The Waldhaus and three Waldsuites can be booked privately. At the heart of the garden is a natural pond and a 33 °C thermal pool. Bad Lippspringe holds two state honours: it is an officially recognised spa and a climatic health resort.
