Schloss Lamerdingen

Schloss Lamerdingen stands in the village of Lamerdingen in the Ostallgäu district of Swabia. The building is protected as a historic monument and sits on the main street in the centre of the village. It was constructed around 1724 as the official residence of the Untervogt, a local administrator. Until 1803 it belonged to the Prince-Bishopric of Augsburg. Today it remains in private hands. The structure is a rectangular building with a hipped roof and a projecting section on the south side. Inside, the upper floor features fine stucco ceilings. The grand staircase in the baroque style displays the coat of arms of Franz Anton von Imhof, who commissioned the house. The building’s restrained elegance reflects its original purpose as an administrative seat rather than a grand residence. Visitors see a modest but well-preserved example of early 18th-century Swabian architecture. The exterior shows clean lines and traditional craftsmanship. Inside, the stucco work and staircase remain largely intact. The setting in a quiet village adds to the sense of stepping back in time. It offers a quiet glimpse of local history without the crowds of larger castles.
