Domašín

Domašín is a small village in the Jihočeský kraj, part of the municipality of Studená. It lies near the old border between Bohemia and Moravia, about two kilometres northwest of Studená. The village sits on the II/409 road and belongs to the Domašín u Studené cadastral area covering 2.63 square kilometres. Three isolated houses called Nový Svět stand in Bohemia within this area. Until 1958 these houses belonged to a different cadastral area before being transferred by a regional decision. The first written record of Domašín dates from 1366. For over a century it was an independent municipality, first in the Dačice district, then in Třešť from 1950 and finally in Jindřichův Hradec from 1960. In 1976 it became part of Studená and has remained so since. Visitors find a quiet rural settlement with only 59 residents and 33 addresses. The surrounding countryside is gentle and open, typical of the Bohemian-Moravian borderland. The village itself shows little change from its 14th-century origins. A single road links it to Studená while the nearby Nový Svět houses sit alone in the fields of Bohemia.
