Monrepos
Seeschloss Monrepos stands beside Eglosheimer Lake on the edge of Ludwigsburg, a short walk from the larger Baroque palaces. Built as a hunting lodge in the early 18th century, it sits apart yet linked by tree-lined paths to the main palace grounds. The dukes of Württemberg once rode here to shoot deer along the lake shore and watch waterfowl rise at dawn. Today the little schloss remains in private hands, one of the few royal properties still owned by the former dynasty after 1918. The estate once formed part of a vast hunting park that stretched across meadows and woods. A round pavilion called the Seehäuslein, dating from 1714, still marks the northern shore where Eberhard Ludwig paused to watch the water. Later owners enlarged the house and laid out formal gardens that slope down to the lake. The surrounding land is now split: private golf holes roll across the southern side while the northern shore stays open as parkland. Inside the house visitors find a single-storey hall with tall windows facing the water. Oak panelling and simple stucco frames recall the 18th-century dukes who came here to rest after the chase. Outside, a gravel drive curves past the little pavilion, and a broad lawn stretches to the lake edge. From the terrace the water reflects the house and the distant roofs of Ludwigsburg, linking the private retreat with the town beyond.
