Podersdorf Lighthouse

The Leuchtturm Podersdorf stands on the eastern shore of the Neusiedler See in the small town of Podersdorf am See. It is one of the few lighthouses in Austria and one of the southernmost in the German-speaking world. The twelve-metre tower rises from a pier that juts into the lake, making it visible across the flat Seewinkel landscape. The tower was built in the late 1990s as part of a redesign of the town’s beach. Its red-and-white stripes mark both the entrance to the lake and the edge of the resort. The lighthouse has since appeared on Austrian postage stamps, including a 2021 issue celebrating Burgenland’s centenary and a 2025 design featuring the tower alone. Visitors walk the pier to reach the lighthouse and can then stroll the sand beach on either side. The beach offers one of the rare shoreline spots in the region free of reeds. From the pier, views stretch across the lake to the reed beds and distant villages.
