Pfarrkirche hl. Johannes der Täufer, Reinsberg

The Catholic parish church of Saint John the Baptist stands in the centre of Reinsberg, a village in the Scheibbs district of Lower Austria. The church belongs to the deanery of Scheibbs in the diocese of St Pölten and is protected as a listed building. It occupies the site of an earlier 12th-century baptismal church linked to Steinakirchen am Forst. The present building began in the late 13th century with a nave and a vaulted choir without buttresses. In the 15th century a south aisle and sacristy were added, the old nave was vaulted, and buttresses were added to the north side of the nave and the east side of the choir. The tower was heightened between 1679 and 1681 and the church was partly regothicised in 1893–94. A restoration took place in 1989–90. Inside, the two-aisled nave has three bays with pointed arches on octagonal piers. The wider north aisle carries a wide late-Gothic ribless vault on consoles and a wooden west gallery built in 1614–15 on renewed wooden posts. The south aisle has net-ribbed vaulting and a late-Gothic arcade opening. The choir, raised one step, has a single early-Gothic ribbed vault with a five-sided end. The high altar, designed by Ferdinand Andri, shows the patron saint in the centre flanked by statues of Saint Leonhard and Saint Florian.
