Protestant Church, Siget in der Wart

The Evangelical parish church in Siget in der Wart stands in the small village of Siget in the Wart, part of the market town of Rotenturm an der Pinka in Burgenland. Built between 1792 and 1794 as a Tolerance church, it is a simple but protected Lutheran place of worship. A three-storey tower was added in 1820, topped with a pointed spire. The single-storey vicarage beside the church has an open ground-floor arcade. The church’s plain rectangular nave ends in a short, flat-roofed chancel. Inside, three bays of vaulting rest on pilasters, and a gallery without supporting columns runs along the west wall. The tower’s richly decorated plasterwork contrasts with the unadorned exterior. In 1800 a Neoclassical pulpit-altar was made for Stadtschlaining’s Lutheran church and moved here twenty years later. Visitors step into a calm, whitewashed interior where light falls through plain windows. The gallery’s balustrade is plain, and the vault’s geometric panels create subtle shadows. The pulpit-altar, with its slender columns and classical entablature, dominates the east end. Outside, the village lanes lead past vineyards and orchards, giving a quiet sense of rural Burgenland.
