Campi

Campi is a small village in the Apennine foothills of Emilia-Romagna, near Albareto. It sits in a quiet valley where the Mediterranean climate brings warm summers and mild winters. The surrounding hills are covered with chestnut and oak woods that turn golden in autumn. A single narrow road winds up from the valley floor to the cluster of stone houses. At the top stands a small parish church with a plain façade and a single bell. The village has no grand monuments or museums. Its appeal lies in the stillness and the slow rhythm of rural life. Villagers still gather chestnuts in October and press them into flour in the old mill. A few families keep small orchards of ancient apple and pear trees whose fruit is turned into local cider. The only public building is the tiny town hall, where elders meet on Sunday mornings over espresso. Visitors walk along shaded lanes between stone walls covered in ivy. The scent of wood smoke drifts from chimneys in the late afternoon. From the church steps there is a view across the valley to distant ridges. In spring wild narcissi appear in the meadows, and in summer the air hums with cicadas. The place offers no distractions beyond the changing seasons and the quiet company of its inhabitants.
