Panargenkamm

The Panargenkamm is a mountain ridge in the Venediger Group of East Tirol. It forms the northern edge of the upper Defereggental valley and is separated from the Lasörling Group by the Trojeralmtal valley to the north-east. The ridge lies almost entirely within the Hohe Tauern National Park.
The Panargenkamm stretches from the Weißen Beil in the south-east to the Rotenmanntörl pass in the north-west. Along this main ridge stand notable peaks such as the Kauschkahorn, Seespitze, Erlsbacher Spitzen, Alplesspitze, Keesegg, Panargenspitze, Keeslenke and Totenkarspitze. The Keesegg is the highest summit at 3,173 metres. South ridges extend from the Seespitze and Alplesspitze towards the Weitstrahl and Hutnerspitze respectively.
Small glacial remains appear on the northern slopes of the Keesegg, Panargenspitze and Totenkarspitze. On the southern side of the ridge several mountain lakes dot the landscape, including the Eggsee, Großbachsee, Alplesseen and Oberseitsee. The ridge’s eastern and western boundaries are marked by the Trojer Almbach and the Schwarzach river, which separate it from adjacent ranges.
