Augustinermuseum Rattenberg
The Augustinermuseum stands in the small town of Rattenberg, a medieval settlement on the Inn River in Tirol. Its buildings once formed a 14th-century Augustinian monastery, later occupied by Servites and finally turned into a museum in the 1970s. The complex includes a Gothic cloister, the late-Gothic Hofer Chapel, the Baroque Ecce-Homo Chapel and the former monastery church. These structures rank among the region’s finest historic monuments. The museum specialises in sacred art from the Tirolese part of the Salzburg archdiocese. Its collection spans centuries of religious sculpture, paintings and liturgical objects. In 1994 it received the Austrian Museum Prize, and in 2005 the Tirol Museum Prize, recognising its curatorial work. Visitors walk through the quiet cloister passages and enter the chapels where medieval and Baroque artworks are displayed. The former church now serves as an exhibition hall for larger pieces. Outside, the museum overlooks the narrow streets and river of Rattenberg, a town that has preserved its historic character.
