Gleneagles Hotel

Gleneagles Hotel stands on a wooded estate near Auchterarder in Perth and Kinross. The Caledonian Railway built it and opened in 1924. During the Second World War it became Gleneagles Hospital under Dr Thomas Ferguson. The hotel has three championship golf courses and hosted the 40th Ryder Cup in 2014. It is a Category B listed building recognised for its architecture. The hotel has hosted major events such as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 1977 and the 31st G8 summit in 2005. Bands like Henry Hall’s played here before the war, and in 1994 Oasis performed for Sony executives. The PGA Centenary Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, opened in 1993 and hosted the Ryder Cup. The British School of Falconry has been at Gleneagles since 1992. Visitors find three tournament-standard golf courses: the King’s, Queen’s and PGA Centenary. There is also a nine-hole academy course and a golf academy. The grounds include holiday homes in Glenmor village. The hotel itself offers five-star facilities and has held five red stars from the AA since 1986.
