Falkamspitze

The Falkamspitze, also called Wagensamspitz, is a 2,827-metre peak in the Villgratner range on the border between St. Veit in Defereggen and Außervillgraten in East Tyrol. It sits on the main ridge between the Wagenstein to the south-west and the Rotegg to the north-east. The summit has a gentle south-east ridge, while steep northern slopes feed the Stemmeringer Almbach. Below its southern flanks lies the Falkamsee, from which the Schrentebach flows down to the Winkeltalbach. Climbers usually treat the Falkamspitze as part of a longer ridge traverse rather than an independent goal. The classic route runs from Gsaritzer Törl over Karnase, Rotegg and the Falkamspitze to the Wagenstein, graded I+. Manfred Poleschinski’s guidebook describes this as a straightforward alpine crossing for fit walkers. On the summit ridge there are wide views across the Defereggental and the Villgraten valleys. The nearby Falkamsee reflects the surrounding peaks on calm days, while the Stemmeringer Almbach begins its descent through steep gullies. The whole area offers quiet high-alpine scenery without the crowds of more famous summits.
