Pfarrkirche Lehenrotte

The Roman Catholic parish church of Lehenrotte stands in the small village of Lehenrotte within the market town of Türnitz in Lower Austria. It is dedicated to Saint Leonard of Limoges and belongs to the Lilienfeld deanery in the Diocese of St Pölten. The building is protected as a listed monument. The church began as a chapel in the 17th century under the parish of Türnitz. In 1785 it became an independent parish attached to Lilienfeld Abbey. The present church was built in 1785 in the Joseph II style and enlarged in 1854. A major restoration in 1961 was followed by external work in 1982 when the sacristy on the north side was removed. The church forms a harmonious group with the parish house built at the same time and the former school. Inside, the church has a nave under a flat ceiling and a separated chancel. A baroque cartouche bearing the coat of arms of Lilienfeld Abbey marks the chancel arch. The stained-glass windows showing the arrest of Christ, the crucifixion and Saint George date from 1912. The high altar, in baroque style, dates from 1835 and carries a painting of Saint Leonard by M. Mayer from 1626. The classical baptismal font and the organ with seven stops built by Matthias Metall in 1805 remain in place.
