Plough Lane

Plough Lane is a football stadium in Wimbledon, south-west London. It is the home ground of AFC Wimbledon and, since 2022, also hosts London Broncos rugby league matches. The stadium stands on the site of the former Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium, about 200 yards east of the original Plough Lane football ground where Wimbledon F.C. played from 1912 to 1991. AFC Wimbledon moved here from Kingsmeadow in November 2020 after years of campaigning to return to Merton. The new stadium was built with strong support from fans through crowdfunding and bond issues, raising over £7 million from supporters. The ground has a permanent west stand seating 4,267 and semi-permanent stands on the other three sides, giving an initial capacity of 9,215. The south stand includes a safe standing area for vocal home fans, while the north stand is reserved for away supporters with its own entrance. A family area runs along the east side, and a secondary entrance for home fans is on Greyhound Parade. The stadium’s opening match in November 2020 saw Joe Pigott score the first goal, though no fans could attend due to COVID-19 restrictions. Visitors find a modern four-storey west stand with hospitality suites above general admission areas. The south stand is the heart of the home support, with safe standing for atmosphere. The north stand keeps away fans separate, and the east stand offers family-friendly seating. Greyhound Parade provides a pedestrian-only approach to the ground. The stadium has hosted major events including women’s cup finals, rugby league matches, and even an American football game in 2026. It also serves as a vaccination centre and community space, reflecting its role beyond just football.
