Puckinger See

Puckinger See is an artificial lake in Upper Austria, created when gravel was dug for the A25 motorway. It lies east of Pucking, close to Linz, and covers a small recreation area. The lake sits beside the motorway, separated by a narrow strip of lawn and trees. Its water comes from the nearby Traun river through groundwater. The site includes a swimming zone, sunbathing lawn, tennis courts, allotment gardens and a sports centre.
The lake draws anglers for its varied fish, such as carp, zander and catfish, and even paddlefish. In summer the water warms to 25 degrees Celsius. A climbing hall and beach volleyball court sit on the east bank, with football pitches and toilets nearby. The western shore remains natural, while the north has a narrow sunbathing strip next to the motorway. Despite bathing quality water, noise from the road and dense aquatic plants reduce pleasure for swimmers.
Visitors find a quiet local spot for curling, volleyball and football. Allotment holders tend their plots along the east side. In winter the frozen surface hosts ice skaters and stick shooters. Anglers cast lines year-round for the lake’s rich fish life. The climbing hall offers indoor sport when weather turns. Dense reeds and steep banks frame the water, giving a wilder feel than busier lakes nearby.
