Pfarrkirche Nagelberg

The parish church of Nagelberg stands on a gentle rise in the old village core of Alt-Nagelberg, part of the Brand-Nagelberg market town in Lower Austria. It is dedicated to Saint Joseph the Worker and belongs to the Gmünd deanery in the diocese of St Pölten. The present building replaced an earlier place of worship in the late 1950s. Architect Josef Friedl designed the rectangular nave with its pitched roof and folded window leaves in 1959–60. A broad rectangular portal on the south front leads up a flight of steps to the entrance. The choir is set back on the north side, while a square tower with a low pyramidal roof rises to the north-west. Below the church, a rusticated basement levels the slope and now serves as the parish library. Inside, the wide nave opens into a raised choir framed by a rectangular opening. The ceiling steps up over the nave and choir, lined with continuous ornamental stained glass. An organ loft above the porch rests on pillars and posts. The choir ceiling is ribbed and flat, and above the freestanding altar hangs a carved crucifix.
