Filialkirche Maria Hilf Putschall

The Filialkirche Putschall stands in the village of Putschall, part of the municipality of Großkirchheim in Carinthia. Built in 1809, it belongs to the parish of Sagritz and is dedicated to Maria Hilf. The church is a simple classical building with a square chancel, a two-bay nave and a small bell tower on the roof. Inside, the nave is covered by a flat dome resting on four arches. Ionic pilasters with ribbon decoration divide the space, and a curved balcony spans the entrance bay. The ceiling painting shows the Coronation of the Virgin and the four Evangelists in roundels. A 19th-century painted canopy frames the altar recess, while the altarpiece houses a 15th-century Madonna in a baroque shrine topped by a baroque crucifix. The church also contains an 18th-century carved figure of Christ at the Column and statues of Saints John Nepomuk, Anthony of Padua, George and Ulrich. The Stations of the Cross date from around 1700. A 1969 porch was added to the front, and a restoration in 1997 recovered the classical facade decoration with engraved pilaster strips.
