Eschkopf

The Eschkopf stands in the Palatine Forest near the village of Hofstätten in Rheinland-Pfalz. It reaches 608.3 metres above sea level and forms part of the Frankenweide massif. The main Palatine Watershed crosses its summit, separating streams that flow north and south. About 3.4 kilometres to the north lies Hofstätten, while Johanniskreuz is 3.6 kilometres southeast. The hill is the northernmost of four peaks over 600 metres in this chain. It is worth the journey because the ridge offers uninterrupted walking routes. From the Eschkopf you can follow the hilltops south past Mosisberg, Hortenkopf and Weißenberg without dropping below 450 metres. The path passes forester’s lodges at Taubensuhl and Heldenstein. Walkers can continue almost as far as Neustadt an der Weinstraße along the same ridge. Views stretch across the forest canopy and into the surrounding countryside. A visitor finds wide forest paths and open hilltop clearings on the Eschkopf. The summit area is marked by a trig point and offers space to rest. The ridge walk rewards with long-distance views over the Palatine Forest. Benches and waymarks make the route easy to follow. The quiet woodland and changing light create a peaceful atmosphere. The route links several peaks, each with its own outlook.
