Windsor and Royal Borough Museum

Windsor and Royal Borough Museum sits inside Windsor Guildhall, a Grade I listed building in the heart of the town. The museum tells the story of Windsor and the wider Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. It is run by the local council and focuses on local history rather than royal display. The first exhibition opened in 1951 during the Festival of Britain, opened by Princess Elizabeth. The Queen returned to the Guildhall in 2011 for a later visit. Among the displays is a painting by Alix Jennings, part of the small art collection. Visitors find rooms inside the Guildhall filled with maps, photographs and documents. Exhibits show how Windsor has changed over centuries. The setting itself, with its grand architecture, adds to the experience of exploring local heritage.
