Burgrest Fischburg

The Burgrest Fischburg stands on the 640-metre Kapuzinerfels between Seeburg and Hengen, two districts of Bad Urach in the Reutlingen district. It was built around 1150 as a spur castle and had already fallen into ruin by 1300. The Lords of Justingen once owned the site, which once occupied an oval area on the rocky spur with two transverse ditches.

Only a small rubble mound remains of the once substantial structure. The castle’s foundations and defensive ditches are still faintly visible on the ground. Archaeologists recognise the layout of the former great hall and the surrounding wall traces. The site offers a clear picture of how the medieval fortress once looked.

Visitors reach the Kapuzinerfels via a short walk from Seeburg or Hengen. The path climbs gently through mixed woodland to the rocky outcrop. From the mound there are wide views over the surrounding Alb foothills. The quiet setting makes it easy to imagine the castle’s vanished life.
