St Decuman's Church

St Decuman’s Church stands in Rhoscrowther, Pembrokeshire, on a site used by early Christians. It is dedicated to Saint Decuman and once served as the bishop-house for the cantref of Penfro. Under medieval Welsh law it ranked among the seven principal churches in Dyfed. The Friends of Friendless Churches now care for the building. The church has seen several restorations, first in 1852, then again in 1870 and 1910. Its nave and chancel may date from the 13th century, while the transept, chapel and tower belong to the 14th century. The rubble-stone walls carry a slate roof topped by a small bellcote. Inside, visitors find a 12th- or 13th-century font in the north porch and a Norman font in the nave. Two recesses and wall-mounted coffin lids hold tombs and memorials, the oldest dated 1716. The pulpit and lectern are 19th-century additions, and windows range from the 19th to the 20th centuries.
