Türml

The Türml stands at 2,844 metres in the Dorferkamm of the Venedigergruppe, a chain in East Tyrol. It rises just south of the Türmljoch, a narrow mountain pass that marks the northern edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park. To the west lies the Stredacher Winkl basin with the Maurerbach stream, while the Dorfer Bach flows eastwards. Nearby peaks include the Kleine Geiger to the west, the Niklaskopf to the south, and the Happ group to the north. Climbers reach the summit via the Türmljoch, where two routes start. The shorter eastern route takes about twenty minutes and follows steep slabs rated II. A longer northern ridge route takes roughly an hour and is graded IV. The first ascent was made on 19 May 1967 by K. Hoi and W. Almberger along the southern flank. From the Türmljoch the view stretches across the rugged crest of the Dorferkamm. The steep rock faces of the Türml rise above the pass, offering a sharp contrast to the gentler slopes of the Happ group. The surrounding valleys hold the streams that feed the Isel river, while high alpine meadows appear in summer. The contrast between the wild rock and the open grassland makes the Türml a striking point in the landscape.
