Walmendinger Horn

The Walmendinger Horn rises on the northern side of the Kleinwalsertal valley, west of the village of Mittelberg. Its slopes drop north to the Schwarzwasserbach stream and south and east to the Breitach. From the summit all nearby peaks are visible—the Hoher Ifen, the Kanzelwand and the Grosser Widderstein, plus the Schafalpenköpfe and the Trettachspitze and Mädelegabel in the distance.
A cable car has climbed to the summit since 1966, with new upper and lower stations added in 2006. At the top a viewing platform and sun terrace overlook the Allgäu Alps. A short alpine flower trail winds from the mountain station to the summit cross, passing more than 130 plant species along the way.
In winter the Walmendinger Horn’s ski area offers ten kilometres of pistes served by one cabin lift, three chairlifts and three beginner lifts. The longest downhill run measures 4.2 kilometres. In summer the same lifts carry hikers to high trails across the northern face.
