Schloss Selling

Schloss Selling stands in the Attergau region of Upper Austria, close to the village of Thern. The building began as a wooden structure called Saelingen, built by Stift Aspach in Bavaria. By 1127 it belonged to Countess Christina Geraldi, later passing to Stift Aspach and then to the Bishopric of Bamberg. Documents from 1296 and 1390 show its changing ownership and the grant of the estate as a life tenancy to Heinrich Hintermaier. The present house was reshaped in the 19th century and turned into a working farm. Above the entrance hangs a stone tablet dated 1836 and inscribed with the name Anton Hesch. The Meergraf family from Thuringia have owned the farm since Franz Alois Meergraf handed it to his daughter Monika in 1957. Visitors see a plain farmhouse with a single-storey façade and a gabled roof. The entrance bears the date stone, and the surrounding farmyard shows modern agricultural buildings. The setting is quiet farmland near the Attersee hills, offering a view of the alpine foothills.
