Talmberk
Talmberk is a small village in the Kutná Hora District of the Czech Republic. It grew around the ruins of Talmberk Castle, built in the 13th century on a rocky outcrop above the village. The castle was abandoned by the 16th century and left to decay. Local people took stones from the ruins for building work, which continued into the 19th century. A large part of the remaining structure collapsed in 1933. Since 1966 the ruins have been protected as a cultural monument. The castle’s history is tied to the Lords of Talmberk, who held it for much of the 14th century. Diviš of Talmberk regained control in 1397 after a dispute with Havel Medek of Valdek. His son Oldřich inherited the castle in 1415. By 1473 the family had lost ownership, and the castle stood empty. The village below was first mentioned in 1297 under the name William of Talmberk. Visitors today find a quiet village beside the remains of the medieval castle. The ruins include sections of walls and towers on a wooded hill. The site offers views over the surrounding countryside. The castle’s history is recalled in the Czech role-playing game Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The peaceful setting contrasts with the castle’s turbulent past.
