Tristhof

Tristhof is a mountain peak in the Austrian Alps. It stands in the Steiermark region near the town of Schladming. The summit reaches 2 248 metres above sea level. The land around it is mostly steep and rugged. Grassland covers most of the slopes and ridges. Few people live in this high valley, with only about twenty residents per square kilometre. The mountain offers wide views across the surrounding ranges. On clear days the peaks of the Dachstein massif appear to the north. To the south the Tauern chain stretches across the horizon. The air is thin and cool even in summer. Hikers often climb Tristhof as part of a longer ridge walk. Paths lead up from the valley floor below Schladming. The route follows a narrow ridge with steep drops on either side. No trees grow near the top, only low alpine plants. The silence is broken only by wind and the occasional alpine chough. The summit itself is a small rocky knob with room for only a few people at once.
