Schloss Reuschenberg
Schloss Reuschenberg was a small castle complex in the Bürrig district of Leverkusen. It stood on a 22-metre hill and traces its origins to a medieval fortress first recorded in 1300. The site passed through seven different owners over the centuries, beginning with the knights of Reuschenberg. In 1676 the medieval structure was rebuilt as a Baroque palace, but it burned in 1885 and was restored the following year. Among its notable owners was Cologne’s mayor Michael von Cronenberg, who held the estate from 1635. In 1802 Henriette von Wyhe married Caspar Josef Carl von Mylius, a Cologne officer in the Austrian army who lived at the castle until 1831. After his death, the estate passed to Baron Franz Egon von Fürstenberg-Stammheim before the city of Leverkusen took possession in 1961. Today the grounds form the Wildpark Reuschenberg, where visitors walk beneath tall trees and beside ponds. Paths wind past old stone walls that once belonged to the castle. The park offers views across the surrounding landscape and a quiet place to observe local wildlife.
